Big News! Fannie Mae Just Made Home Loans Easier to Qualify For
Good news for homebuyers! Fannie Mae has just made a major change that could make qualifying for a conventional loan easier than ever.
đ° What Changed
As of November 16, 2025, Fannie Mae has removed the 620 minimum credit-score requirement for loans run through its Desktop UnderwriterŽ system.
Instead, approvals will now be based on a full risk reviewâincluding income, debt, savings, and payment historyârather than a single score.
đĄ Why It Matters
This means:
-
Buyers with credit scores below 620 may now qualify.
-
Limited or non-traditional credit (like rent or utility history) can now count.
-
More buyers can access conventional loan benefitsâlike lower PMI and flexible terms.
đ What To Do Now
-
Get pre-approved with a lender whoâs updated to the new guidelines.
-
Gather documentation (paystubs, bank statements, rent history, etc.).
-
Talk with us about your options and how this change impacts your buying power.
This update opens doors for many first-time and returning buyersâespecially those rebuilding credit or with short credit histories.
